I’ve had some difficulty in deciding to join Cycle for Survival this year, and in getting this post up. I’ve participated in this cycling fundraiser to benefit rare cancer research for three years now. But with the tough economy still affecting thousands of Americans, it’s hard to ask for charity. Then the earthquake hit Haiti last week, and I questioned whether I could ever ask people to support any other cause. But the truth is, there are always diverse causes in need of help. Pulling myself out of something I’ve always supported doesn’t help anyone. Even if I can’t raise anything beyond my own donation, it’s far better than quitting.
So I’m excited to spin on January 31st at Equinox in support of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The energy that fills this event is always inspiring and I feel proud to do my part. The money goes to rarer forms of cancer that are even more desperate for funding.
If you’d like to donate a bit of money to support my ride in this great cause, I would greatly appreciate it. There is no minimum and you can donate anonymously if you so choose. Here is the link to my page. Let’s get that number up high!
Thanks again, and I promise to get back to the great food and wine with my next post.
Cycle for Survival is an annual indoor cycling event to raise money for research on rare, “orphan cancers” that are particularly low in funding. Though thousands of people are inflicted with these diseases every year, research is a long way from developing any kind of effective treatment. Once again this year, as I did last year, I’m participating in Cycle for Survival as a captain for the “Sunday Spinners” group, comprised of myself and three of my loyal Sunday spin class devotees. I know times are tough but if you can donate a few dollars to the cause, it would really mean a lot to me. As one of my cousins was at Memorial Sloan-Kettering this year, supporting cancer research is more personally relevant. You can donate directly here.
Thanks again, and I promise to get back to the great food and wine with my next post!
As some of you know, when I’m not consuming great food and wine, I’m often working it off in the Spinning room as an instructor. This Saturday, June 28th I’ll be riding in Spinning Nation 2008, a national spinning event to raise money for some great causes like prostate cancer and AIDS research. So what do I need from you? No, you don’t have to sweat- it- out with me, but if you can donate a little bit of money to the cause I’d really appreciate it. My fundraising page is here.
You can donate any amount of money electronically, it’s very easy. Thanks so much for your support!
Just a quick memo to thank everyone who sponsored me at Spin4Survival this year. The event raised over $500,000 for cancer research, more than double what it accomplished last year. I raised nearly $500 with your help and I truly appreciate it. It’s a nice accomplishment as this was only the second annual Spin4Survival event. Here’s hoping that next year we can double the contribution once again. Thanks for the support!
Now that the holiday season is over, how about cashing in on that New Year’s resolution you have to donate more money to charitable organizations? This year I’m participating in Spin4Survival, an indoor cycling event taking place this month on January 27th. People join sponsored teams of spinners who spin for 4 hours at a time at various locations. The main location is at the Equinox in Columbus Circle which is where I’ll be riding in a few weeks. All money raised for the event goes toward supporting cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. If you’d like to donate a bit of money for a great cause or just support me because you love me so much, then click on through. There is no minimum and you can make your donation completely anonymous. Thanks everyone, for the help!
I wanted to let you all know that starting on Thursday, July 12th I will be teaching class at the Cooper Square/Astor Place location of New York Health and Racquet Club rather than 76th and York. It’s a very exciting move as my new gym is the nicest of all the NYHRC’s. It has a large spin room with about 50 bikes and the gym is gorgeous with a big weight/cardio room, jazuzzis, pool, and even a rock climbing wall! If anyone would like to attend class it will be at the same time (7PM) on Thursdays. If you are not a member of NYHRC, I can put you on the list as a guest. Happy spinning!
I am pleased to announce that starting in the first week of June I will finally have my own official, permanent Spinning class. It will be at New York Health and Racquet Club @76th Street on Thursdays at 7PM. Finally, I am no longer a wandering, spin subbing nomad. In all seriousness, I’m really excited about this. It has been difficult to find a time to teach on a regular basis, especially given my new schedule of commuting to Westchester every day. At school I used to teach every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening and I developed a nice following to the point that I had a spinning bouncer-esque lady at the door for all of my classes who checked off those who signed up. I am really excited to develop a following of people who are coming to attend my class specifically, rather than those who come to see someone else.
If any of you are New York Health and Racquet Club members, I highly encourage you to come on any Thursday night and check out the class. I promise you a tough workout with a great mix of music. If you are not a NYHRC member, let me know, and I can put you on the list for the evening!
